Sulfates are synthetic chemicals used as cleansing agents and are typically found in household cleaners and detergents. For some Sulfates are too harsh for the hair and skin and are known to strip color and shine from the hair and skin. Two main types of sulfates used in shampoo are sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate.
